To me, being happy means to be satisfied with who you are, what you have, and where you are in life, as well as pursuing a meaningful goal. A good way to be happy is to be with your friends and laugh a lot, because then you aren’t thinking of anything else. Also eating right and exercising your body can make you happy. If I don’t move around my body, my mind tends to get restless and i forget how simple life is when you are just in the moment.

The hook to this story began when she said what her grandmother would say at a time like this. That makes the reader want to keep reading to find out what story her grandmother would tell. Ann Banks demonstrated her interest in the power of storytelling that she spent a year in the Library of Congress reading interviews of Americans and how they got through the Great Depression. She transitions to the present and tells us how we need to once again create stories, but this time our own stories, so we can share our experiences through this economically difficult time and hope for a better future.
“One morning my grandmother and her colleagues arrived at the office to discover that someone had chiseled the silver dollar right out of the floor.”
This quote shows how tough the times were, and how desperate people were to gain money.
“Blanche ended up losing her house, her car and all the money she had saved for my father’s education. Those things, though, she seldom mentioned.”
This quote demonstrates how emotionally difficult those times were.
“That is how I came to find myself spending a year in a dimly lit storage room in the Library of Congress, sorting through thousands of interviews with ordinary Americans telling of how they survived the Great Depression.”
This shows how interested she is in the stories of the people that experienced the Great Depression, enough to spend a year always in the Library of Congress.
“”my face burnt like fire, for I knowed I was gettin’ tested.” ”
This tells you how hard it was financially when she was tempted with a five dollar bill in front of her and her face started to burn with temptation.

As I was driving by the ocean, the immense waves mesmerized me and I began swerving.
As we sat restlessly, students began to send notes to each other to pass the plodding time.
As I was leisurely driving down the highway, a road sign caught my attention until I felt a bump, and saw a dead clown in the rear-view mirror.

Josh Rittenberg hooked his readers when he mentioned his social life. I think this was so he could relate to the younger readers. He begins to explain how his father had a very pessimistic view on the future, and Josh began looking at his grandparents photo album. He explained how they saw two World Wars, killer flu, and segregation but how they also witnessed the end of two World Wars, the polio vaccine, and passage of the Civil Rights Laws. Then he begins to say how his generation will also see better things like his grandparents did. He believes that the future will bring good things which is why he titles the reading ‘Tomorrow Will Be A Better Day”

I think T. Susan Chang did this because she wants to explain to the world the simplicity and effectiveness of analog. She says we are being consumed by the electronic world, basically becoming robotic by not appreciating the subtle mistakes and smudges we make on paper that makes us human. She makes herself the example of how peaceful the analog lifestyle can be after she, herself, was consumed by electronics.

Writing has been one of my favorite aspects of school because it gives me a chance to be creative. Since Middle School, I always enjoyed taking a topic and trying to persuade people to its causes. This is one of my favorite methods of essay writings because I can become involved in the topic that I’m writing about. What I do not like about writing essays is the strict writing conventions that need to be followed. Over the years, the majority of my essay writings that my teachers make me do have been after reading a book. This has been some of my least favorite essays to write in school because of my lack of interest. Other writings have been on historic events where we explain its significance of our history. Writings I’ve done independently have mostly been letters, to teachers discussing grades in my class. I think that writing is a traditional academic skill set because clear and proper communication is important when handling important business. Teachers should give us more leeway when it comes to writing, because I don’t like the feeling of being constricted when writing.
